Just days into Putin’s hastily invasion of Ukraine, Russian soldiers besieged the nuclear plant in Chernobyl and began firing at buildings at the site.

After taking over the facilities, Russian soldiers risked triggering another nuclear disaster by keeping the staff hostage and forcing them to work with little to no sleep and food.

On March 31, more than a month after their occupation of Chernobyl, the invaders finally retreated from the plant and left the region.

It has now come to light that Russian soldiers plundered two laboratories at the site and stole highly radioactive substances that could kill them and other people.

“Even a small part of this activity is deadly if handled unprofessionally,” Ukraine’s State Agency overseeing the management of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone said as they revealed 133 radioactive substances were stolen from research labs.

Meanwhile, Energy Minister German Gulashchenko revealed that some Russian soldiers likely have less than a year to live after exposing themselves to lethal levels of radiation without any protection.

“They dug bare soil contaminated with radiation, collected radioactive sand in bags for fortification, breathed this dust,” Gulashchenko said.

“After a month of such exposure, they have a maximum of one year of life. More precisely, not life but a slow death from diseases.

“Every Russian soldier will bring a piece of Chernobyl home. Dead or alive. The ignorance of Russian soldiers is shocking.”

The news comes shortly after it was revealed that dozens of Russian soldiers who were stationed at Chernobyl were rushed to hospitals in Belarus after suffering the effects of radiation exposure.
