Russia has imposed sanctions on the top United States officials including President Joe Biden.
After being showered with economic and cultural sanctions by the West over Putin’s senseless invasion of Ukraine, Russia’s Kremlin imposed a list of sanctions of their own only to be mocked for it by the White House.
In a bizarre move to prove that Russia, too, can impose sanctions on the US, Kremlin put 13 high-profile Americans on the so-called ‘stop list’ and banned them from entering Russia while freezing all of their assets in the country.
The sanctions were announced by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov who said the Kremlin was acting “on the basis of reciprocity” and “in response to a series of unprecedented sanctions.”
Lavrov further argued that the sanctions on 13 US officials were an “inevitable consequence of the extremely Russophobic course taken by the current US Administration, which, in a desperate attempt to maintain American hegemony, has relied, discarding all decency, on the frontal constricting of Russia.
”
On the list of sanctioned individuals is President Joe Biden whom the Kremlin referred to as Joseph Robinette Biden rather than Joseph Robinette Biden Jr.
On the list are also White House press secretary Jen Psaki, former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden, secretary of state Antony Blinken, secretary of defense Lloyd Austin, chairman of the joint chiefs of staff Mark Milley, national security adviser Jake Sullivan, CIA director Bill Burns, deputy national security advisor for international economics Daleep Singh, USAID administrator Samantha Power, deputy secretary of the Treasury Wally Adeyemo, president of the Export-Import Bank of the US Reta Jo Lewis.
Following Kremlin’s announcement, Psaki laughed off the sanctions saying:
“I would first note that President Biden is a ‘junior’ so they may have sanctioned his dad, may he rest in peace.
“The second piece I would say is … that none of us are planning tourist trips to Russia and none of us have bank accounts that we won’t be able to access, so we will forge ahead.”
Mocking the sanctions was also Hillary Clinton who tweeted: “I want to thank the Russian Academy for this Lifetime Achievement Award.”
