Russia has bombed the second biggest airport in Ukraine on Friday morning.

Lviv Danylo Halytskyi International Airport, Ukraine’s second-largest airport, was seen going up in flames and smoke during an aerial bombardment on Friday.

The airport, which lies just 43 miles from the border between Poland and Ukraine, was struck by an undisclosed number of non-nuclear missiles, causing massive clouds of black smoke to take over the sky in Lviv which lies on the west of the country.

In one footage taken from the city, at least two massive fireballs were seen erupting at the airport amid the bombing.

The bombardment comes just days after Russian cruise missiles killed at least 35 people during an attack on a military facility outside of Lviv.

As Governor Maxim Kozitsky claimed, 134 people were wounded and at least 35 were killed in the Russian missile attack.

Meanwhile, Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi suggested the Russian attack on the airport was senseless as he confirmed that “active work at the facility was stopped in advance” which is why there were no casualties.

“There was no purpose [behind the attack]. It was pure destruction. That’s what they’re doing right now,” Sadovyi said.

He went on to voice concerns over the future of Lviv as he said “the reality of war” is that they can’t know when and where the next Russian missile will strike.

“Russia has not enough military power to occupy new territories. But they have a lot of missiles,” the mayor said.

“I don’t believe that you can murder 40 million people and destroy hundreds of millions of different facilities and objects.”
