World’s First Pregnancy Robot: China Working on Humanoid Capable of Full-Term Baby Delivery


You might think it’s a concept that currently only exists in sci-fi movies, but China is here to prove us wrong.

The country’s leading scientists are rolling out the first pregnancy robot that’s capable of carrying a baby to term and giving birth.

The humanoid would be equipped with an artificial womb that gets nutrients through a hose, as per experts. A prototype is said to be rolled out next year.

The selling price would be around 100,000 yuan, which is the equivalent of 10,000 pounds.

Dr. Zhang Qifeng, who founded the firm Kaiwa Technology, is said to be busy developing this machine. The device he envisions isn’t simply an incubator but a humanoid that could replicate the whole process from conception to delivery, as per Asian media outlets.

He mentioned how the artificial womb tech is already in the stage of maturation and now needs to get implanted inside the robot’s abdomen so that a real person and the robot could interact to attain pregnancy.

With regards to the ethical and legal concerns, ‘We have held discussion forums with authorities in Guangdong Province and carried out some related proposals while discussing policy and legislation’- the statement mentioned.
