Robert Downey Jr has surprised his fans with a rare video showing him celebrating his birthday with his three sons.
The Ironman star appeared in high spirits as he celebrated his 58th birthday in the company of his loved ones on Tuesday.
While the Hollywood star is no stranger to posing in front of cameras, he rarely shares pictures or videos of his two young sons. This year’s birthday celebration, however, appears to be an exception.
Robert shares one adult son, 29, with ex-wife Deborah Falconer and two young sons, aged 8 and 11, with his current wife, Susan Downey.
The birthday footage showed the actor holding a cake with lit candles and a series of recollections including the time his two young sons shaved his head for the sake of his role in the novel-adapted mini-series The Sympathizer.
“57 you’ve been too kind / with deep gratitude I shall rewind..” the caption of the video read.
The emotional video also showed Downey blowing out the candles on his cake while his family watched on and sang the Happy Birthday song.
For the occasion, the actor dressed casually by sporting a white T-shirt featuring an edited image of Bruce Lee and a white baseball hat.
Elsewhere in the footage, Robert could be seen dressed in the outfit he wore while filming Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. Another segment showed the actor in two different costumes while on the set of The Sympathizer’s set.
For the filming of the latter, the Hollywood star had his head shaved by his sons as it made it easier to make his balding wigs appear more realistic.
The end of the video featured a sweet moment showing Downey resting his head on his wife’s lap.
“And the sweet 17 of marriage — sublime!” the caption read. “After all these blessings I simply must say I hope I NEVER grow up one day.”
