Ricky Martin and his husband Jwan Josef have left fans heartbroken after they announced that their divorce.
It was in 2015 when the former couple first met through Instagram. After being married for six years, they have confirmed their divorce.
In a statement to PEOPLE, they wrote: “We have decided to end our marriage with love, respect, and dignity for our children and honoring what we have experienced as a couple all these wonderful years.!
Their joint statement added: “Our greatest desire now is to continue having a healthy family dynamic and a relationship centered on peace and friendship to continue the joint upbringing of our children, preserving the respect and love we have for each other.”
Martin and Josef’s romance started after they met in England in 2015. A year later, they made their relationship public and announced their engagement.
They got married in 2018, with Livin La Vida Loca hitmaker sharing the news of their nuptial during an interview with Entertainment News.
Martin said at that time: “I’m a husband, but we’re doing a heavy party in a couple of months – I’ll let you know.
“We exchanged vows, and we’ve swear [sic] everything, and we’ve signed all the papers that we needed to sign, prenups and everything.”
That same year, the former couple welcomed their first child together. In October 2019, they announced the birth of their second child.
In Martin’s 2011 memoir titled Me: Ricky Martin, he opened up about how his s*xuality made him believed that he would never become a father.
In a 2020 interview with Out magazine, Martin said: “Many years I dreamt of being a father, and many, many, many times I went through this grieving process of, ‘I am gay, I am a closeted gay man, and I’m not going to be able to be a daddy.’”
