Rapper Da Brat has surprised her fans after revealing that she is pregnant.
The 48-year-old music artist, who is married to 41-year-old Jesseca ‘Judy’ Harris-Dupart, has opened up about her joy in a candid interview with People in which she revealed the good news comes after she suffered a heartbreaking miscarriage.
“I never thought I was going to have kids. I just thought it wasn’t in the cards for me. I’ve had a great career, a full life. I felt like, because I didn’t get pregnant earlier on, then it just wasn’t going to happen for me,” Da Brat, whose real name is Shawntae Harris-Dupart, expressed.
She also admitted that her plans for the future changed after she fell in love with Jesseca and the pair began discussing the possibility of starting their own family through IVF.
“I started looking at life so differently. I was like, I want a little me with you. Something special from the both of us that we can share and raise and love unconditionally,” she added.
According to the couple, they used Harris-Dupart’s eggs and sperm from an anonymous donor to conceive, whereas Da Brat is already 18 weeks pregnant as of this writing.
In her interview with People, the singer also admitted she had suffered a miscarriage in the pair’s earlier attempt at expanding their family.
“I had never been so excited about something that I didn’t even know I wanted. I fell in love with the idea and then it was all snatched away from me. Luckily we still had quite a few of her eggs left,” she explained.
