On Friday, Russian President Putin is all set for a major showdown as he will take part in a controversial peace summit with US President Donald Trump.
The summit would take place against the backdrop of a continuous war between Ukraine and Russia.
Therefore, it’s said to hold so much geopolitical weight, especially considering the fact that Putin is on the most-wanted list for international war crimes by the ICC. In 2023, the ICC rolled out an arrest warrant for him, accusing him of different criminal activities against humanity.
This includes abduction and trafficking of children in Ukraine. This raises a serious point of concern related to whether or not Putin could get arrested during his meeting with Trump.
As per one military expert, the situation is awfully complex due to the US’ stance on the ICC. ‘The Americans are not bound by the ICC, so he can go to Alaska. This is the actual loophole. He could operate exactly how he sees fit. And he also knows that he would not go anywhere where he had the chance of getting arrested.
The location of Alaska is between the US and Russia, which adds another layer of significance as to why Putin agreed to come forward and strike a possible deal with the US.
