Severe flash flooding across the tri-state area on Monday caused some serious subway delays and road closures across the Big Apple and pushed New Jersey to declare a state of emergency.
All five boroughs and Nassau County were under a flash flood warning through midnight as per the National Weather Service.
Flooding can be considered a major and deadly ordeal with little or no warning. Streets, basements, and below-grade spaces could fill with water in minutes, sources shared.
Advisories were issued to keep a bag near the door and clear all exit paths in a situation of serious emergency. Also, all flooded areas need to be avoided at all times. Never ever walk or drive into water or turn around, and don’t drown.
Westchester County was placed under the same alert until 12:15 am after the lanes experienced serious flooding.
The 1,2, and 3 trains were all suspended in Manhattan while the MTA addressed the flooding situation across several stations. Inside the 23rd Street Station, water seemed to be bursting out of the gate into the floor, and the entire floor was flooded as per a recent video shared on X. Water also ended up getting spilled under the doors and onto the subway itself as riders took refuge on the seats.
