One of Italy’s most experienced skydivers has passed away after a mega 1500-meter jump despite both of his parachutes opening up.
Sandro Bigozzi was only 49 at the time of his death, and he died on Saturday after taking off from an airstrip in Montecompatri, which is a town that’s located right outside of Rome.
With more than 50,000 followers on Instagram and nearly 6,000 dives under his belt, he was well known and respected amongst those in the skydiving industry.
He shared a clip of a dive he had just carried out, two hours before the fatal tragedy. Investigators who have already seized the equipment used and spoken to several witnesses believe his parachutes were delayed in their deployment. Now that would not have given the thrillseeker enough time to slow down.
But at the same time, they are also looking at the possibility that Bigozzi might have suffered from a sudden illness during the flight and skydive that might have hindered his ability to save himself.
An autopsy is now being conducted in the coming days to figure out more regarding what might have resulted in this tragedy. On top of working as a leading skydiver, he was also a sales representative for a leading pharmaceutical company.
