This is a horrifying moment an Afghan news anchor reads out the headlines while surrounded by armed Taliban militants.
The video was posted online by the TV studio after the thugs demanded the news presenter praise the group.
“Afghanistan TV – surreal,” BBC’s Yalda Hakim wrote on Twitter along with the video of the news report.
“This is what a political debate now looks like on Afghan TV, Taliban foot soldiers watching over the host,” Hakim continued.
“The presenter talks about the collapse of the Ghani govt & says the Islamic Emirate says the Afghan people should not to be afraid #Afghanistan.”
The video, which has been viewed over one million times, shows the news presenter surrounded by armed militants who guard him as he reads the headlines.
According to reports, the armed men stormed the building and demanded the news anchor praise and speak with them.
The presenter carried out a debate with the thugs while on air, WIO News reported. He also told people to cooperate with the group.
Masih Alinejad, an Iranian journalist, retweeted the clip and wrote: “This is surreal. Taliban militants are posing behind this visibly petrified TV host with guns and making him to say that people of #Afghanistan shouldn’t be scared of the Islamic Emirate.
“Taliban itself is synonymous with fear in the minds of millions. This is just another proof.”
One person commented: “How do you even begin to comment such a video…poor guy…I wish him all the luck in the world he stays safe…”
Another wrote: “Can’t imagine how he could read and didn’t freeze. Nerves of steel he has.i hope he’ll survive the ordeal.”
A third added: “Oh dear Lord! Thoughts and prayers with the people of Afghanistan.”
