A loving chef and television host has passed away in a tragic helicopter accident in South Africa.
The 43-year-old woman identified by several South African outlets as Mynie Steffens passed away after the helicopter that she was flying crashed at a citrus farm outside the town of Patensie in the Eastern Cape.
Steffens, who was a helicopter pilot, cookbook author, and TV personality, was spraying oranges at the farm with pesticides when the tragedy arose before 8 am local time on Monday. This is when her plane crashed, as confirmed by local media outlets.
Before the crash, the helicopter had struck power lines. Information that is currently at disposal indicates how the pilot was carrying out a pest control operation flight when the helicopter struck the power lines and crashed. The helicopter itself was damaged due to the impact force, and the chef was unable to survive in the aftermath of the tragedy, sources added.
Images of the accident shared by the latter outlet showed how the helicopter was lying in a patch of grass on the farm, with pieces of the exterior clearly missing from the crash.
Police are currently investigating the matter in detail to figure out what went wrong. As per the South African police service, they have yet to reply to the press’s request for comments.
