According to local media reports, the speculations are running high as he just recently postponed his trip to Africa while announcing a range of meetings that were unusual and not something that many see him participating in.
While the exact reason for the postponement of the trip to Congo and South Sudan is yet to be revealed, some claim it was due to knee pain that the Pope was suffering from.
The Pope is now busy announcing a consistory where he will begin to name a series of new cardinals that will take place during the August holiday.
The Catholic leader has been making news due to his deteriorating health conditions but no one knew that a sudden resignation was on the cards and that is why many are shocked.
