Washington, DC Attorney General has sued President Donald Trump on early Friday after the administration appointed the Drug Enforcement Administration head to command the city’s police force.

The 33-page-long document alleged how the DEA Administrator Terry Cole’s appointment as emergency police commissioner went beyond the emergency authorities inside the DC Home Rule Act that Trump invoked to cause a surge in law enforcement resources across the city.

The lawsuit seeks to cancel the DEA head’s installation and keep the Metropolitan Police Department under the command of Mayor Muriel Bowser and Police Chief Pamela Smith.

‘There’s no greater risk to public safety in big, professional police forces like MPD than to not know who is in command,’- the case filed went on to read.

It cited more details about a crime emergency where Trump, on Monday, shared that he was taking over the MPD by invoking the Home Rule Act provision that requires the mayor to provide law enforcement services to the head of state when there is some kind of emergency situation that’s declared.

Hours before that, the US Attorney General Pam Bondi rolled out an order appointing Cole to effectively take charge of the force and requiring the MPD leaders to receive his approval before rolling out new directives.
