With the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard defamation trial in full swing, many Depp fans are showing the actor their undue support.
According to local media reports, the actor’s ‘Justice for Johnny Depp’ petition to have him return back to the Pirates of the Caribbean movie has crossed the 500k mark. To be more specific, it has reached a whopping 700,000 signatures, which is way more than anyone had anticipated.
The petition from Change.org had reportedly been launched back 12 months ago and while it may not have garnered too much attention at that time, it’s getting plenty of support now.
The news comes as new plans are in the pipeline about a possible new film and fans think the time has come for Depp to be given justice and allowed back on the team as the lead character, Captain Jack Sparrow.
Depp had been canceled out of the project’s sixth movie after shocking allegations of being a ‘wife beater’ had emerged, thanks to Amber Heard. But with the way the ongoing trial is turning out to be right now, many feel Johnny Depp is indeed a victim of abuse and not the other way around.
This particular petition has been addressed to the movie’s producer Jerry Bruckheimer and while it may not be mentioning Heard or the ongoing defamation trial, it’s quite clear that the timing of popularity says a lot.
Moreover, those who are signing are making sure they highlight the trial with a flurry of comments on the matter. Many of the comments stated how Amber Heard had an integral role in destroying the actor’s name and career and hence should be given a second chance due to his innocence.
The news comes as Amber Heard’s role in Aquaman 2 has reportedly undergone a massive reduction of just ten minutes in total.
