Inspectors claim that more than 210 of the inmates in Downview jail are overweight. While many spoke bout how they are constantly locked inside their cells and that leaves no time for any physical activity or exercise.

In the end, the prisoners end up feasting on their snacks and that is what’s leading to this widespread issue.

Inspectors from South London’s HMP Downview also spoke about how there was certainly a large proportion of the 210 female prisoners who could be classified as obese and it’s getting to be a major concern relating to their health and wellbeing.

“They are only given 30 minutes from their 24 hours to exercise. It is definitely worrisome and needs to be looked at more closely,” mentioned one inspector following the case that has come to authorities’ concerns recently.

Others spoke about how the weight gain occurred unusually during the lockdown and for that reason, there are so many reports about them breaking toilet seats.

Meanwhile, other shocking reports spoke about how the female jail inmates even complained to the inspectors about how they have been doing nothing but piling on so many pounds after being thrown in jail, adding how part of the problem had to do with comfort eating too.

While there are new health strategies being discussed on how to combat this problem before it gets too late, other inspectors felt it was high time to be tackling obesity in jail by introducing healthier meal options like salads.
