At least 63 people were confirmed dead in a horrifying crash, with many others injured.
The incident took place shortly after midnight at the Kitaleba Village near the Asili Farm inside the Kiryandongo District of Uganda. Four vehicles were reportedly involved in this accident including two buses, a lorry, and a land cruiser/SUV.
As per investigations carried out by the police, one of the buses was traveling from Kampala and tried to overtake the lorry when this crash took place. At the same time, the other bus was making an attempt to overtake another vehicle from the opposite direction.
The two buses therefore ended up colliding head on during the overtaking manuevers and that triggered a chain reaction that entailed the lorry and the SUV.
The injured were evacuated to a nearby Uganda Red Cross Society that had supported facilities, and the police force says the scene was very severe, with so many victims suffering from broken bones and heavy bleeding episodes. The cops emphasized more on the risky overtaking and how that remains a serious cause of death for road accidents in the country. Therefore, motorists were urged to exercise maximum caution.
