At least 40 people were killed, and several others were left injured after a bomb was dropped by a paraglider who was flying over the festival.
Hundreds were gathered in the center of Myanmar’s Chaung U Township for the Thadingyut full moon festival on Monday.
Sources shared how reports indicated that the military dropped these bombs, which left 80 people seriously injured from the incident. Meanwhile, a member of the committee that organized this event also suggested that there was an involvement of the army in this ordeal.
One female witness shared more about how many were gathering for the festival, and an anti-junta demonstration was scheduled to take place at 7 pm when the bombs killed more than 40 individuals and left 80 more injured.
Speaking to AFP media outlet, she added how the committee alerted people and one third of the crowd did manage to flee in time miraculously.
But one motor-powered paraglider did fly right over the crowd and dropped two bombs on the center, where the majority of the crowd was gathered. In shocking scenes, she recounted the number of kids being torn from their loved ones, and it was sad to see the number of funerals that had taken place the next day, which was Tuesday.
After the paraglider left the city, locals rushed to the scene to recover survivors and help all those who were wounded. As of today, some are still busy collecting body parts from the ground, including pieces of flesh, limbs, and other body parts that were blown apart.
