Children would soon be allowed to select their own gender at any given age under a new, controversial EU proposal.
Therapy to check whether or not children are certain they want to change their gender and age limits on gender recognition could soon be discarded in these new plans.
Such proposals, which are laid down in the EU’s new LGBTQ+ equality strategy 2026 to 2030, were also condemned for silencing women.
EU member states who challenged gender ideology might get punished with discriminating regions that don’t comply with values seeing funding getting blocked.
The document, shared on Wednesday, declared that it would support the development of legal gender recognition procedures, depending on self-determination, which are free from age restrictions.
It mentioned: ‘Requirements for legal gender recognition will vary significantly across different member states!’ While the number of member states that have adopted this self-determination model is limited, others continue to impose medical procedures that the EC has found could infringe human rights.
‘The commission will facilitate exchanges of best practices among member states to support the development of legal gender recognition procedures, depending on self-determination, that are free from any kind of age restrictions’- it continued.
