Thousands of homes were recently under orders of urgent evacuation on Sunday due to wildfires in Northern California wine country and central Oregon, as crews were seen battling the flames in dry and hot conditions.
The Pickett Fire that ended up charring nearly 26 square kilometers of Napa County was only 11% contained on Sunday as per the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, or Cal Fire.
Some 190 individuals were ordered to leave their residences, while another 360 were under warnings of urgent evacuation as the massive blaze threatened 500 structures near Aetna Springs and Pope Valley, which is 127km north of San Francisco, as explained by Cal Fire spokesperson Jason Clay.
In Oregon, the Flat Fire in Deschutes and Jefferson counties grew so big that they were said to cover nearly 88 square kilometers, with about 4000 homes under different levels of evacuation orders. This entails 1000 with orders to leave urgently, as per the Fire Marshal’s Office.
More than 1230 firefighters were seen receiving support from 10 helicopters that battled this massive blaze. It is believed to have begun on Thursday after a week of extremely hot weather.
The cause of this fire is still being investigated, as per reports from local media outlets.
