President Trump just signed a new executive order to rebrand the Pentagon as the Department of War.
Speaking to reporters at the Oval Office, he shared how it was so much more appropriate when you consider the dire state of the world. But the matter has left many around the globe questioning his choices.
“I think it’s so much more appropriate, especially in light of where the world stands right now. We have the strongest military globally,” he shared before signing that same order.
This particular order authorizes the Secretary of Defense and subordinate officials to make use of secondary titles like Secretary of War, ‘Department of War’, and Deputy Secretary of War in official correspondence, public communications, ceremonial contexts, and non-statutory documents within the executive branch.
Pentagon officials changed the signage outside the Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s office, and the department’s website got a revamp. The older site, defense.gov, is now rerouted to war.gov, which displays the US Department of War at the top. DOD has also been replaced with DOW for various headlines across the board.
Hegseth, who joined the president in the Oval Office, shared how this name change is not just about renaming, but it’s about restoring. He also shared how the military will go on offense and not just defense, reflecting on its name change. Moreover, the nation will be raising up warriors and not just defenders, he concluded.
