North Korea Bans Citizens From Laughing & Drinking For 11 Days


North Korea always manages to stay in the news headlines and today is no exception.

The country’s government has reportedly ordered citizens to avoid laughing and drinking for the next 11 days! Yes, you heard that right.

According to local media outlets, the country has barred the public from displaying any form of emotion, especially that relating to happiness as the country commemorates the death anniversary of leader Kim Jong II’s death.

Kim Jong II was a leader who led the country from the year 1994 to 2011. After that, he was succeeded by his own third and youngest son, who is the worldwide famous current leader, Kim Jong Un.

Just ten years after the leader’s death, so many North Koreans are being forced to follow a strict protocol comprising of various laws and regulations pertaining to the abstinence of alcohol and also laughing.

The 11 day period of mourning will also include barring the public from engaging in any leisure activities too, as reported by a North Korean who hails from the country’s border city called Sinuiju.

In addition to that, the source also spoke about how North Koreans will not be allowed to go out to get their groceries on the actual death anniversary day which is December 17th.

“In the past, so many individuals were caught engaging in cigarettes and alcohol and for that reason, they were found to be in an intoxicated state on the actual day of the mourning. So, to prevent such incidents from occurring again, the government has put forward some strict measures in place,” he explained.

Surprisingly, even if a person’s family member passes away during this period, citizens are not allowed to cry out loud, and the body will only be taken out after it is over, he explained.
