As high-profile South Korean government sources insisted, recent activies show that the North is likely preparing for its first nuclear test in five years.

According to South Korea’s news agency Yonhap, Kim Jong-un is rapidly building a “shortcut” to an underground tunnel at the North’s nuclear test site in Punggye-ri.

As the South’s government believes, similar activities at the North’s nuclear test site suggest that Kim Jong-un is ready to revive the underground testing facilities that were closed as part of the country’s negotiations in 2018.

“(The North) abruptly stopped its initial construction work to restore the entrance to Tunnel 3, and it is digging up the side (of the tunnel),” a government source told Yonhap.

“In this way, it seems like it will be possible to restore (the nuclear testing facilities) in a month.”

Experts further believe there is a possibility that North Korea’s dictator could be rushing preparations in order to be ready for a nuclear test by April 25 which marks the country’s Military Foundation Day.

The concerning report comes just days after North Korea’s first successful launch of its monster intercontinental ballistic missile known as Hwasong-17. The missile has an estimated range of 9,320 miles, meaning it could easily reach mainland United States.
