Republican senators Bill Cassidy from Louisiana and John Barrasso from Wyoming have rolled out a resolution recommending President Trump receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
This time around, it has to do with the successful efforts linked to expediting the creation of the COVID-19 vaccines through Operation Warp Speed during the pandemic.
The resolution introduced by the GOP lawmakers mentioned how Trump’s efforts averted an estimated 1,600,000 hospitalizations and nearly 235,000 deaths in the country and also saved approximately 14,400,000 lives around the globe.
The news matters because for so many months, Trump and his supporters have constantly mentioned that he should be given the highest honor for all of his efforts. This includes seeking a peace deal in the Middle East. They are now urging calls for him to get the prize for the COVID vaccine, when the project received so much backlash from the MAGA base and vaccine skeptics, who could make this bid harder to sell.
The senators wrote that Trump “has a legacy of bold action to save lives around the world,” and that he had acted swiftly to protect human life by launching Operation Warp Speed, the White House initiative to quickly formulate and manufacture a vaccine at the height of the pandemic in 2020.
