Among the world’s leading chains that stood up to Russia’s aggression was also sportswear and shoe company Nike.

While the multinational manufacturer already suspended its operations in Russia back on March 3, the company now revealed it would be permanently pulling out of the country.

As part of their walkout, Nike vowed to accelerate their complete exit and leave the Russian market for good.

The company joined other Western giants, including Google and McDonald’s, who chose to quit the Russian market before Moscow passes legislation that would allow them to seize their assets in the country or impose penalties on businesses that stood up to the government by suspending their operations.

“NIKE has made the decision to leave the Russian marketplace. Our priority is to ensure we are fully supporting our employees while we responsibly scale down our operations over the coming months,” NIKE confirmed in a statement.

The decision comes after Putin’s invasion of Ukraine led to the West imposing a string of economic and cultural sanctions against Russia.
