Nicolas Cage and his wife Riko Shibata have welcomed their first child together on Wednesday, September 7.
The 27-year-old mom gave birth to a baby girl named August Francesca Coppola Cage at a Los Angeles hospital.
‘Francesca’ seems to be a nod to Nicolas’ uncle, director Francis Ford Coppola. The couple also had planned to name a son Akira Francesco, also after him.
This is Nicolas’ third child and Riko’s first. The actor has son Kal El, 16, with ex-wife Alice Kim, and son Weston Coppola, 31, with ex Christina Fulton.
Riko and Nicolas met in Japan in 2020 while he was filming Sion Son’s Prisoners of Ghostland. She played a role in the film as one of the four Mannequin Women.
The pair got engaged on FaceTime then tied the knot at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas in February 2021.
Confirming their wedding news, Nicolas told Daily Mail in a statement: “It’s true, and we are very happy.”
Riko is the actor’s fifth wife.
Nicolas was first married to Patricia Arquette from 1995 to 2001. He then tied the knot with Lisa Marie Presley in 2002 but they decided to separate ways in 2004.
He married Erica Koike in 2019 but it only lasted for four days.
During their wedding ceremony, Riko wore a black Japanese Bridal Kimono and heled a bouquet of red and yellow roses. Her long, dark hair cascaded around her shoulders.
Nicolas wore a black Tom Ford Tuxedo and a yellow rose buttonhole to match his bride’s bouquet.
Riko walked down he aisle to ‘Winter Song’ by Kiroro before they exchanged their vows. They were photographed surrounded by green foliage and white candles in the hotel’s Primrose Courtyard as the officiant Reverent Richard E. Walter performed the ceremony.
A rep for the actor confirmed the news of their baby’s arrival to PEOPLE, saying: “Nicolas and Riko are happy to announce the birth of their daughter.
“Mother and daughter are doing fine.”
