President Trump has warned the nation that it’s currently entering a dark moment for America, while pledging new steps to confront political violence after conservative activist Charlie Kirk was shot and killed at Utah Valley University.
He framed the assassination as both a criminal manhunt and a broader test for the USA. In an official video shared through social media, hours after the shooting, Trump mentioned with a bold statement and assessment.
‘To my great fellow Americans, I am filled with grief and anger at the heinous assassination of Charlie Kirk on a college campus in Utah’- before urging the general public to focus on what will come next for them.
He shared how his administration would direct federal law enforcement resources to highlight and apprehend the killer, coordinate with state and local agencies on event security protocols, and defend what he referred to as core civic values at stake.
This is a dark moment for the USA, he added. Then he requested all Americans to commit themselves to the American values for which Charlie Kirk lived and died: the values of free speech, citizenship, the rule of law, and the patriotic devotion and love of God.
