Nelly Furtado says she will be stepping back from performing for the foreseeable future, citing the cumulative impact of body-shaming attacks that grew in her direction as a leading factor.
In an emotional Instagram post marking her 25th anniversary of her debut album called Whoa, Nelly! – the star was seen expressing deep gratitude to her fans for showing her love and support all the time.
She made it so clear that while she will be conitnuing to identify as a songwriter, she is retiring from performing live and that means peformances and touring will no longer be a part of her agenda.
She recently responded to public backlash and scrutiny by appearing at the Manchester Pride in August wearing an oversized t-shirt that was printed with a cartoon hourglass figure and the words: ‘Better than ever!’ She used fashion as a statement against body criticism.
Furtado also mentioned that body positive message earlier in the year, urging fans to embrace more self love and less hate and adopt a body neutral stance rather than conformingt to external influence and ideals.
She also mentioned how she would also be open to new avenues and is excited to see what the future holds for her.
