A top music producer who worked with the likes of Eminem and Jay-Z has passed away at the age of 62.
Mark Howard James, who is better known as DJ Mark the 45 King and The 45 King, was an American DJ and hip-hop producer who began his career in the music industry in the 1980s.
Throughout his successful career, the man made his name known by working with big names such as Jay-Z, Eminem, and Queen Latifah.
Now, a rep for the DJ announced that the 62-year-old has passed away. No cause of death was immediately provided.
The saddening news sparked an outpouring of tributes in which Mark was remembered for his work and his contributions to the music scene.
“It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved Mentor DJ Mark the 45 King! He believed in me before anyone else. He touched every life he encountered,” Queen Latifah wrote.
“I’ve never met someone like him; he wanted everyone around him to win. His spirit was magic and will certainly live forever.”
“Legends are never over … I’m 4ever grateful” Eminem posted.
Paying his late colleague a tribute was also DJ Premier who shone a light on The 45 King’s legacy.
“Mark is responsible for so many classics and was a member of the Iconic Crew FLAVOR UNIT (Queen Latifah, Latee, Chill Rob G., Lakim Shabazz, Double J, Lord Alibaski, DJ Cee Justice, Apache, Naughty By Nature, Freddie Foxxx, Markey Fresh, Rowdy Rahz, Storm P, Shakim, and so many more.
“His sound was unlike any other from his heavy drums and his horns were so distinct on every production.”
The tribute continued to list some of the DJ’s top works before adding: “Condolences to his brother Mike and his sister. It’s so much more to say but I’ll leave it here. Sleep peacefully Mark, thank you for all that you’ve done. You’re such a special part of our culture that is chiseled in the stone of the greatest parts of us.”
