French police have made a major breakthrough in the arrest of two suspects who are said to have been involved in the recent Louvre robbery that ended up stealing precious jewels worth nearly $100 million.
The cops shared how the arrests were made in the Paris suburb of Seine-Saint-Denis. One was detained at the Charles de Gaulle Airport as he prepared to board a flight abroad. On the other hand, the other was arrested nearby. As per the investigators, the arrests stemmed from the forensic evidence that was captured.
The robbers are believed to have left their gloves and a helmet behind, so that fingerprint traces and DNA helped in the investigation.
The French police were under pressure as many were appalled at how such a major incident could arise at a famous tourist attraction site, not to mention how it happened in broad daylight.
One of the suspects was believed to be making their way out of the country to avoid being caught, but thankfully did not manage to flee. This particular incident has drawn massive attention to the huge security lapses at the museum, and if the burglars had any inside information.
Many experts do fear that this was an inside job, but only time will tell who exactly was involved as the investigation continues.
