A mother-of-two was abducted and thrown into an SUV while she was out for a morning jog.
Police launched a frantic search for Eliza Fletcher after she was taken away by an unknown man near the University of Memphis on Friday at around 4:30 am.
The final moments of the 34-year-old kindergarten teacher before she was abducted were captured by a surveillance camera.
Her phone was found and picked up by officers who are now probing the disappearance.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation as well as the FBI are now on the case.
The mother-of-two, who is blonde, 5’6” tall, and 133lbs, was pictured wearing a jogging outfit, including a sports bra and colorful shorts when the incident happened.
Police were called to the scene at 7:45 am and found Fletcher’s smashed cell phone and water bottle in front of someone’s home, Action News 5 reported.
Fletcher was reportedly approached by a person who forced her into the dark SUV. She was reported missing when she failed to come back home.
Police have not yet disclosed a potential motive or whether she was abducted by someone who studied her jogging routine or simply taken by an opportunistic predator.
The teacher is an avid runner who always jogs around the area. She is working as a kindergarten teacher at St. Mary’s Episcopal School.
According to Fox News, the letter from the head of the school read: “We have not told our younger students about Mrs. Fletcher. We are supporting the older students as they learn of this news.”
The incident has rattled Fletcher’s community. That afternoon, a Facebook group called ‘Eliza Fletcher Missing in Memphis, Tennessee’ had gained over 2,000 members.
According to the city’s website, there have been more than 100 incidents classified as kidnappings in Memphis this year.
