The missing 9-month-old Alabama girl was found alive and safe after she was presumed kidnapped.
A massive manhunt for Harlow Darby Freeman was launched on Monday evening after the girl disappeared from Parrish, Alabama, along with her father’s car.
According to the early reports, it was believed that the child was kidnapped when the car that her father was driving was stolen when he stopped by his friend’s house.
The father alleged that he only stopped by the home for a minute before leaving the baby in the backseat to greet his friend. After walking out of the home, the father noticed that his car – and his child along with it – was missing.
The police initially believed that the car was stolen and that the child was kidnapped.
Now, however, the car and the child in it were found in a bush just 100 yards away. It was also confirmed that the car wasn’t stolen and that it rolled away after the father forgot to put it in park.
“This is not something that happens in a small town like Parrish. This is a strange turn of events. Luckily, the child was found safe and we’re going to continue to investigate,” Parrish Police Chief Danny Woodard said.
Fortunately, the baby was not harmed and is currently at a children’s hospital in Alabama for evaluation.
The news comes shortly after the baby’s devastated mother, Bethany Smith, pleaded on the internet for the return of her child.
“Be on the lookout for a 2009 white Lexus SUV RX 350 damage to the back right. My car was stolen and the baby was in the back seat in her car seat,” the mom wrote, thinking that her child was abducted.
“Please help! Car was stolen out of Parrish. If you’re reading this and you know anything. All I ask is for my baby back. Y’all can keep the car! Just bring me my back and no questions asked!”
In an update, the distressed mom added:
“You can drop the baby off wherever you want just call me or message me and let me know where she is. No questions asked I swear.”
“If you know where my baby is or how I can get to her. I will meet you with no questions asked. Please just give me back my baby… I’m begging you to please bring my baby to me.”
