Meghan Markle received a mixed reaction from well-wishers in Windsor as she returned to royal life alongside her husband Prince Harry.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the Prince and Princess of Wales walked through the gates of Windsor Castle together and inspected floral tributes left outside the Berkshire estate.
While they were greeted by applause, some greeted the mother-of-two with stony faces as she offered hugs to some of the mourners.
Meghan was also seen cooing over babies in the crowd while Harry was spotted bending down to stroke a dog.
The reunion marks the first time the brothers and their wives have all appeared in public. The last time they were seen together was on March 9, 2020, Commonwealth Day.
The Sussexes, who stepped down from their royal duties before making a series of allegations against the Royal Family, shook hands as they looked at different tributes.
At one point, William received a small Paddington Bear. He was also seen touching the Princess of Wales’s back as she crouched down to speak to a child, who stopped crying when Kate approached her.
The Duchess of Sussex was also seen hugging a young girl waiting out Windsor Castle. She then approached a teenager, who placed her hand over her mouth in surprise. The two spoke for a few moments before Meghan gave her a hug.
A source from the Kensington Palace said that William invited Harry and Meghan to join him and his wife.
The Sussexes’ journalist and friend Omid Scobie took to Twitter and said that the invitation was made at the ‘11th hour.’
“It is, without a doubt, a significant moment in the history of relationship between the two brothers,” he added.
