The Duke of Sussex, who was very close to his grandmother, and the Duchess of Sussex shared a statement on their Archewell website to express their sadness.

The homepage of the website showed: “IN LOVING MEMORY OF Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II 1926 – 2022.”

Her Majesty, who took over as sovereign at the age of 25 when her father King George VI died, passed away at the age of 96.

She was surrounded by her family when she died at her Balmoral residence in Scotland.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman confirmed the heartbreaking news in a statement, which read: “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”

Grieving members of the Royal Family have been sharing tributes to the Queen.

Prince William and Kate repeated the statement from Buckingham Palace and their social media changed their new titles to The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and Cambridge.

It is unlikely Meghan and Harry’s titles will change but it is possible their children – who were not born with royal titles – could be upgraded to Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

This is due to a letter patent issued in 1917 by King George V.

It stated that only the children of the sovereign, the children of the sons of the sovereign, and the eldest living son of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales could be princes and princesses.

With King Charles on the throne, Archie and Lilibet now qualify as ‘the children of sons of the sovereign.’
