The Duchess of Sussex is moving to finally end the four-year rift with her dad Thomas Markle after he suffered from a stroke.
Meghan Markle reportedly reached out to her father’s camp after he was discharged from the hospital, according to Mirror Online.
The 77-year-old retired Hollywood lighting director said that he was ‘hugely grateful’ and ‘lucky’ to be alive.
“I want to thank everyone, especially the wonderful doctors and nurses who saved my life,” Mr. Markle said, adding that he was moved by loving messages he received from all around the globe.
“I can’t speak right now, but I am working hard and will thank people properly when I can.”
Meghan’s father also said that he wanted to pay his respects to the Queen and wish her a happy Jubilee.
A blood clot on the right side of Mr. Markle’s brain caused the severe stroke, Mirror Online reported. Had his condition taken a turn for the worse, the presence of the Duchess of Sussex at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations could’ve been in question.
“Despite their estrangement, Meghan is concerned,” a source said.
“She wants to know if there is any way to contact her father privately, without other family knowing about it or having to get involved.”
The Duchess is said to be concerned reaching out to her father will also mean having to talk to her half-siblings Samantha and Thomas Jr.
Thomas Jr was believed to have been with Mr. Markle in the hospital.
Samantha, who launched a defamation legal case against Meghan, is in her Florida home and may soon fly out to see her father.
“Meghan can’t contact her half-siblings because she believes they have their own agendas,” a source said.
“If she can contact their dad, she wants it to be totally private. It won’t involve Netflix, it won’t involve any photographs and it must not involve any tip-offs to the paparazzi.”
