The Duchess of Sussex, 40, has urged men to be ‘more vocal’ and ‘to channel that fear into action’ in the wake of the Supreme Court’s Roe v Wade decision.
Meghan Markle also described Prince Harry’s reaction to the news as ‘guttural.’
In a Vogue interview with author Gloria Steinem and journalist Jessica Yellin, the mother-of-two said that the Duke of Sussex reacted with anger to the Supreme Court’s decision.
“Men need to be vocal in this moment and beyond because these are decisions that affect relationships, families, and communities at large,” Meghan said.
“They may target women, but the consequences impact all of us.”
The duchess said that she and her husband talked about the matter over the past few days and revealed that the duke is a feminist as well.
Steinem said she could confirm that Harry was also deeply interested in women’s rights as she called the couple ‘chosen family.’
“His reaction last week was guttural, like mine,” Meghan expressed. “I know that for so many women right now, there is a sentiment of despair. But again, we have to band together and not wallow. We have to do the work.”
The former actress also said that it was vital to “normalize conversation about the things that affect our lives and bodies.”
She also referenced her own decision to speak out about her 2020 miscarriage.
“This is about women’s physical safety,” Meghan said.
The mother-of-two continued: “It’s also about economic justice, individual autonomy, and who we are as a society. Nobody should be forced to make a decision they do not want to make, or is unsafe, or puts their own life in jeopardy.”
