Tragic reports have confirmed the death of Jets legend Nick Mangold, who reportedly passed away on Saturday night, only two weeks after he publicly revealed that he needed a kidney transplant.
Mangold was only 41 years old and shared recently how he had been diagnosed in the year 2006 with a genetic defect that led to chronic kidney disease. He mentioned more about how he had a really rough summer and was undergoing dialysis while seeking a kidney transplant.
‘I always knew that this day would come, but I thought that I would have a little more time’- the star mentioned in a new statement.
Mangold, who played center, was a first-round pick by the Jets in the year 2006. He then went on to be one of the key players on the team that went to the playoffs three times and then made it to two AFC Championship Games. He was a two-time first-team All-Pro selection and a seven-time Pro Bowler. Many remembered him for his great talent and brave personality as heartbreaking tributes were shared by former colleagues in his honor after the tragic news.
Mangold retired after the 2016 season and was inducted into the Jets Ring of Honor in the year 2022. The Jets are facing the Bengals on Sunday in Cincinnati, not far from where the star grew up. Centerville, Ohio.
