Nelson Mandela’s grandson has doubled down on his stance against Meghan Markle after the Duchess sparked fury with her recent claims.
In her bombshell interview with the New York magazine The Cut, the Duchess of Sussex made a series of controversial statements that raised plenty of eyebrows around the globe.
Besides taking another jab at the Royal Family and accusing the British media of calling her son Archie the N-word, Meghan likened herself to South Africa’s hero Nelson Mandela as she claimed that a South African Lion King cast member told her how his people “rejoiced in the streets” when she married Prince Harry.
“He looked at me, and he’s just like light. He said, ‘I just need you to know: When you married into this family, we rejoiced in the streets the same we did when Mandela was freed from prison,’” Meghan said.
Following the bold comments, Zwelivelile ‘Mandla’ Mandela, Madiba’s grandson, spoke out and told MailOnline that “every day there are people who want to be Nelson Mandela, either comparing themselves with him or wanting to emulate him.”
He now doubled down on his stance and urged Meghan to “get out there” and do actual work for the benefit of the common people.
“Get out there, pull up your sleeves and better the lives of ordinary people in England and in the United Kingdom,” he told The Times.
“For the personality she is, she can do a lot of good in the global community by adopting the causes that Madiba championed.”
As Mandla noted, people rejoiced in the streets in 1990 after his father’s walk of freedom which marked the end of colonialism and apartheid in South Africa.
“It can never be compared to the celebration of someone’s wedding. Madiba’s celebration was based on overcoming 350 years of colonialism with 60 years of a brutal apartheid regime in South Africa. So It cannot be equated to as the same,” he added in an interview with MailOnline.
