A man was killed by his own pet lion that he had just purchased a few days ago and vowed to keep inside his backyard.

However, his fantasy of living a happy life with the beast of the wildlife kingdom came to a tragic end when the lion mauled him to death and consumed his remains.

The man was a resident of the Iraqi city of Najaf who was attacked in the most devastating manner at his residence by the predator before it ate up most of its remains on Thursday.

A local news outlet shared the horrifying news and how his family is currently in mourning over the tragedy.

‘Today in the garden of the city of Kufa in Najaf, a citizen was attacked by a lion in his own garden and he passed away immediately’- Mufid Tahir shared with a local news outlet, Rudaw.

He added that since the lion consumed such a huge chunk of his remains, and because the animal refused to leave those remains alone, it had to be killed.

The victim was identified as 50-year-old Aqil Fakhr al-Din, who was keeping the lions and other wild animals inside his garden for a few years as per Tahir.

But on Thursday, the predator carried out the most surprising attack against him. He was so ferocious nature and attacked him before devouring him.

One of the victims’ neighbors intervened and shot the beast using his Kalashnikov rifle by firing seven bullets at him.
