The family of the young woman who claims to be the missing child Madeleine McCann has turned down the proposal to undergo a DNA test.
21-year-old Julia Faustyna, who is also known as Julia Wendell and Julia Wandelt, is an aspiring musician and actress from Poland who claimed she has the same eye defect and facial birthmarks as Madeleine McCann – a girl who went missing back in 2007.
Though McCann would now be 19 years old, Julia insists she believes she is the missing child due to her resemblance to Madeleine and due to an alleged lack of photos from her early childhood.
While a quick DNA test could clear all doubts, Julia’s parents allegedly refused to undergo DNA testing to prove their biological relation to the 21-year-old.
It has since also been rumored that Julia might undergo DNA testing along with Madeleine’s birth parents to get to the bottom of the matter.
“I have been personally talking to Julia’s mother and told her we will make her safe and secure in any way she needs but she is still refusing to take the test,” Fia Johansson, Faustyna’s representative, told The Sun.
“She claims she has Julia’s birth certificate but our worry is that you can easily forge this. My feeling is that we need to force the mother or a member of Julia’s family to take the DNA test.”
The rep also claimed that the young woman grew suspicious of her past after allegedly never seeing photos from her early childhood or photos of her mother being pregnant.
Meanwhile, Julia’s family spoke out and suggested the aspiring actress could simply be doing all this for the sake of popularity and fame.
“Julia once wanted to be a singer, a model. She always wanted to be popular,” they said.
“What’s happening now is she has got 1 million followers. The internet won’t forget, and it’s obvious that Julia isn’t Maddie. We are devastated at this current situation.”
The family continued: “For us as a family it is obvious that Julia is our daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin and step niece.
“We have memories, we have pictures. Julia also has these photos, because she took them from the family home with the birth certificate, as well as numerous hospital discharges.”
