Homicide detectives are currently investigating after a man was violently sucked into an MRI machine by a metal chain around his neck, as per police reports in New York.
The horrifying incident took place at the Magnetic Resonance Imaging medical facility on Long Island, a spokesperson with the Nassau County Police Department shared with USA Today.
The facility inside the village on the North Shore of Long Island mentioned how officers responded to a medical emergency call at the Nassau Open MRI in the 1500 Block of Old Country Road.
At this scene, witnesses spoke about how a 61-year-old man entered the unauthorized MRI room while the scan was still in progress.
Officials have yet to release the man’s name because, as shared by the police, he died yesterday. It was not known immediately if he was a visitor or a working member at the facility. As per the cops, the machine’s magnetic field immediately attracted a huge metallic chain that the victim was wearing at the time.
That is what pulled him into the machine and resulted in the medical episode. Police failed to elaborate more on this matter about the extent of the injuries that he had sustained. At this scene, officers reported more about how they assisted the man who was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
