The London Eye has broken down twice on the hottest day of this year.
The sudden outage forced tourists to be stranded inside. As per reports from local media outlets, the incident arose at about 3:45 pm when the temperatures in the capital city soared to 28 degrees Celsius, which marked the warmest May Day ever on record.
It then started letting passengers back in before coming to a complete stop for a second time, just 40 minutes later, as per the Metro.
People on board were left suspended more than 400 feet in the air after the wheel came to an abrupt stop. Meanwhile, the crowds were seen gathering at the base of the giant Ferris wheel that holds 32 capsules. Each one of them carries up to 28 people.
It’s not clear why the London Eye suddenly stopped working, especially after engineers were said to have worked on the issue and fixed whatever problems were coming in their way.
Despite the heated conditions, passengers who happened to be inside those capsules when it stopped said they still had the most pleasant experiences.
Marta Suleva was seen taking a trip in that wheel with her partner and two kids, and they were left stuck at the top when it came to a standstill.
Explaining the situation in detail to The Sun, she shared how there was an announcement about tech issues. But the fact that the AC was still working was a huge relief for many out there.
