Superstar singer Lizzo was recently witnessed honoring multiple female advocates while bagging the award for this year’s People’s Champion.
The famous plus-size entertainer was honored like never before and seen as an icon for so many other people in this world. But she very graciously opted to accept the award and thank those whom she gets inspired. And that list was long.
Lizzo was seen honoring multiple female advocates whom she feels deserve this as much as her as they continue to inspire her on a daily basis.
“I am here tonight to let you all know that to be an icon does not have to be about how many years you’ve spent in this industry. Instead, it’s all about what you do with the platform that you are provided with”- the singer mentioned during her high-profile acceptance speech at the People’s Choice Awards.
Lizzo shared this grand honor with 17 other activists whom she opted to bring onto the stage with her to credit them for their inspiring role in her life. The gesture was seen going viral on social media as many people felt it was heartwarming and gracious of her to do something of that sort.
Lizzo also managed to bag the award for the People’s Choice category for Song of the Year for 2022, which went to her popular track ‘About Damn Time’.
For this category, it was a special honor for her to be introduced by her own mother Shari Johnson-Jefferson whom she praised the singer for being such a champion of others.
While accepting the award from her mother, Lizzo made sure she introduced her mom to the world by stating in her classic manner, ‘My Mama y’all!’
Lizzo concluded by mentioning how she always felt that she may not be worthy or deserving of such an award because if she is indeed the people’s champ then no trophy would be required.
