Fans of American singer Lizzo have rushed to the performer’s aid after she threatened to quit singing over cruel comments about her weight.
The 35-year-old singer-songwriter has sparked fears among her following after a heated rant in which she slapped back at her critics and threatened to quit the music industry and simply enjoy her money.
Now, hundreds of fans of the Truth Hurts hitmaker spoke out in the young woman’s defense while calling out trolls for harassing and body-shaming her.
Among the most vocal supporters is singer SZA who asked social media users why they haven’t spoken up when a “genuine person” needed defending.
“I be wondering where all the virtue signaling, well spoken s*** talking, internet warriors are when someone genuine needs defending,” she wrote.
“Where the f*** do y’all be at for Lizzo? Do y’all actually know how to support others or only tear them down?”
She continued: “I also dgaf who don’t agree. It’s been on my mind for a minute … makes me upset. Just want everyone to practice kindness and shutting tf up more often cause GADDAMN ITS UGLY OUTSIDE ALREADY. Why add?”
Another fan of Lizzo wrote: “Stop bullying this pretty lady. If you don’t wanna watch her move on and be quiet.”
A third said: “If this was anyone else you’d be defending them from trolls but since it’s Lizzo yall think you can make fun of her.”
The words of support come after Lizzo responded to body-shaming comments with threats of quitting her career.
“JUST logged on the app and this is the type of s**t I see about me on a daily basis It’s really starting to make me hate the world,” the body positivity advocate wrote in a response to a comment questioning why Lizzo was still “this fat” despite her activities on stage.
“Then someone in the comments said I eat ‘lots of fast food’ I LITERALLY STOPPED EATING FAST FOOD YEARS AGO… I’m tired of explaining myself all the time and I just wanna get on this app w/out seeing my name in some bulls**t.”
She continued: “Y’all really need to touch grass… I’m not trying to BE fat I’m not trying to BE smaller I’m literally just trying to live and be healthy.
“This is what my body looks like even when I’m eating super clean and working out! Yall speak on s**t y’all know NOTHING ABOUT and I’m starting to get heated. I HATE IT HERE. The Love definitely do not outweigh the Hate on social media… all because I’m fat???? This is CRAZY.”
Concluding her rant, the 35-year-old singer said she is close to quitting her career and “enjoying” her well-earned money somewhere on a farm away from the limelight.
