A Virginia jury has found a former elementary school administrator liable for a staggering $10 million in the shooting of a first grade teacher by a 6-year-old nearly three years ago.
The former first-grade educator, Abigail Zwerner, sued Ebony Parker, who was the former VP of Richneck Elementary School in Newport News, Virginia, for gross negligence.
She alleged that Parker failed to act on the simple warnings put out before her that the six-year-old boy had a gun and was acting in an alarming manner on the day of the shooting.
After more than five hours of deliberation on Wednesday and Thursday, the seven-person jury ruled in favor of the teacher who was seeking $40M in damages.
Zwerner’s legal team lauded the verdict in the statement released right after, adding how it would assist Zwerner during her recovery from the harrowing matter.
‘This verdict was a major step forward in Abby’s long road of healing,’- lawyers mentioned during the joint statement shared on this. It confirmed what they’ve said from the start – what happened inside Richneck Elementary was not right and would never be tolerated.
