The mega diamond is widely renowned as the Great Star of Africa and also as Cullinan I. This is hailed to be the biggest diamond in the world and is renowned for its clear-cut and sparking appearance.

It currently sits on the end part of the Sovereign’s Sceptre, and this is a part of the Crown Jewels.

Sources claim it is a part of the bigger diamond that was presented as a gift to the royal family after it was located in the year 1905 in South Africa. Therefore, South Africans are the ones pushing forward for their release back to their nation. They want it to be placed in a museum so the public can view it as compared to it sitting inside a safe encasing all of the fancy collection of jewels worn by her Majesty.

During the time that the jewel was taken from South Africa, the nation had been under the rule of the British. And now that Her Majesty has passed away, sources feel the time has come for the jewel to return back to where it originally belongs.

Others call it extremely unfair to have the jewel lying around in possession of the royal family. This is why they hope the petition could raise more awareness on the matter.

But critics argue that the petition will not make a huge difference to anything, and the jewel will always remain with the royal family. After all, it was a gift and can’t be returned based on a single petition.
