President Donald Trump has reportedly landed in Israel after the first seven hostages were released by Hamas as part of his historic deal.
The incident gave rise to jubilant celebrations in Tel Aviv. The American head of state arrived as a hero, hours after Hamas handed over the first seven hostages to Israel. All the rest of the hostages would be handed over on Monday morning before midday.
The news of the release comes as Trump declared the war is over, hours before he was welcomed at Ben Gurion Airport by Israel’s PM Benjamin Netanyahu. He would be seen greeting the families of the hostages in Jerusalem and address the Israeli parliament before flying to a peace summit in Egypt’s Sharm-el-Sheikh.
Reports showed a very ecstatic crowd burst into cheers and sang, with thousands chanting, ‘everyone now’ and ‘bring them home’ in front of massive screens displaying the handover. More than 1700 Palestinian prisoners and detainees are set to be released as part of this deal. The majority of detainees from Palestine who were kept in Israeli prisons were not charged or convicted, as per the HR organization Hamoked.
