For decades, the longest-reigning monarch’s personal cypher, EIIR which stood for Elizabeth Regina II, graced state documents, government buildings, mailboxes, and royal uniforms.

Following King Charles III’s ascension to the throne, the era of the Queen’s cypher has come to an end, whereas Buckingham Palace revealed the new cypher yesterday.

According to the reports, it will include the initial of the king’s name – the letter C – as well as the initial of the title Rex which translates to ‘king’ in Latin. The inscription will also be accompanied by the Roman numeral III and a crown icon.

She added: “The first coins bearing the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III will enter circulation in line with demand from banks and post offices. This means the coinage of King Charles III and Queen Elizabeth II will co-circulate in the UK for many years to come.”
