Kathy Griffin Undergoes Surgery After Losing Her Voice Amid Battle With Cancer


Kathy Griffin has opened up about her voice loss and revealed she is returning to the hospital to undergo a procedure on her vocal cords.

Last year, the 62-year-old American comedian and actress had half of her left lung removed following her lung cancer diagnosis.

Now, she spoke out in a viral video to reveal she’s having vocal cord surgery in an attempt to get her voice back.

“Good morning. Yes, I’m feeling sorry for myself and I’ll tell you why. Because I’m on my way to the hospital again, because I have to go into general to get another procedure on my vocal cords,” she said with a choppy voice.

“So the good news is I get to go home today. But the last time I got this done, it hurt for like seven days. But I’m just being a baby.”

She continued: “But I want to get my voice back, you know, I’ll do anything. Also I wanted to tell you guys, I want your pity.

“Right, you know in movies, when they’re like, ‘I don’t want your pity, don’t feel sorry for me!’ Hell yeah, I’ll take it I’ll take your pity. I’ll take your feelings of sorry. I love it. Bring it.”

Soon after her clip went viral, the Emmy Award winner and the star of the show Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List received tons of support and encouragement from fans and fellow entertainment industry figures.

The news comes months after Griffin appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and revealed that she lost half of her left lung while suffering damage to her voice.

“My voice got some damage. But I’m fine, it doesn’t hurt… and the important thing is my boobs are still fabulous,” she joked.

Responding to the host who asked her whether she will regain her vocal abilities in the future, she added: “I think it’ll get back to normal, but I’m not sure. I’m still working on it. I am funnier cause I think I sound non-threatening and demure. That’s my new angle.”
