A judge has been branded as heartless after belittling and scolding a senior cancer patient over his messy lawn.

Michigan 31st District Judge Alexis G. Krot has come under fire after her brutal treatment of a 72-year-old man with lymph node cancer who couldn’t keep his lawn up to standards due to his condition.

Burhan Chowdhury from Hamtramck was forced to make a virtual court appearance over a ticket he received for failing to maintain his lawn and keep his trees from blocking the sidewalk in front of his home.

Since the old man struggles to complete house chores such as yard work due to his condition and the effect of his treatments, he tasked his son, Shibbir Chowdhury, with helping him maintain his property.

The vegetation, however, grew out of control last year when the son left for Bangladesh for several months. At the time, a disgruntled neighbor allegedly reported the senior man and he was issued a ticket by the city.

Though the family allegedly took care of the overgrown plants since the complaint, Chowdhury still had to appear in court only to be belittled by the judge who told him he should be ashamed of himself.

“You should be ashamed of yourself. If I could give you jail time on this, I would,” Krot told the 72-year-old.

She added: “That is shameful. Shameful. The neighbors should not have to look at that.”

While Shibbir attempted to explain to the judge that his father couldn’t take care of his lawn due to his weakness, the judge appeared to ignore these claims and insist that his yard was “inappropriate.”

“She was telling my father, a sick person, that he should go to jail. That’s ridiculous,” the angry son said in an interview with the Washington Post after his father’s virtual court appearance.

“The way she said that my father should serve jail time for this thing really bugged me. I was really shocked by it. I didn’t expect her to yell at us in this kind of a situation.”

He concluded: “You can’t give a 72-year-old person jail time for not cleaning an alley.”
